Automated Database

PracticeMaker® has a built-in system to help you update a
database. The following are the conditions that must exist in order for
this process to function.

just log-off. These computer can remain on and do not need to be
powered off.

FileMaker Server services
- Regular FileMaker Pro must be
correctly installed on th host/server
- Backup all your files before doing
the update
- The folder "PracticeMaker5 Archive"
must exist at the root level of the computer
- The "new" database is placed into the
PracticeMaker5
folder on your host/server.
After the "new" database is placed into the
PracticeMaker5 folder do the
following...
- Start PracticeMaker® on the host computer
and log-in as usual
- Return to Preferences and go to the
Utility tab. The Admin
password may be required.
- Click the update database
button
- Select the database you want to update
- The process the from that point is
straight forward and does require user intervention and the following
of clearly labeled dialog boxes
Note; In order for this to work the path names for the host
computer must be exactly entered. You can click the green buttons next
to the bottom to fields to help you fill these in.
Manual
Database
Updating
This section describes the steps you need to take to manually update
databases. Occasionally we may either send you an updated database,
post
one to our web site for you to download, or it is installed into the
PracticeMaker5 folder from the "Empty Database" installer on your
original CD. Any database that is new either
has
"new" as part of its name, such as "Patients
new.fp5"
or "RecordsPM new.fp5". It is possible that the extension
".fp5"
is not visible based on the operating system you are using.
To manually update a database simply double click on it and enter the
highest level FileMaker Password you were given. Then follow the on
screen instructions. At the end, PracticeMaker will quit allowing you
to manually rename the databases.
